Collective Soul was formed in 1992 in Stockbridge, Georgia. Now based in Atlanta, the group has undergone a handful of line-up changes however founding members lead vocalist Ed Roland and rhythm guitarist Dean Roland have remained. Collective Soul’s debut album Hints, Allegations, and Things Left Unsaid was originally released on the independent label Rising Storm Records in 1993. The album’s lead single “Shine” received regional radio play and granted them a record deal with Atlantic Records. The album was re-released in 1994 causing “Shine” to become a national hit and peak at Number 1 on the Mainstream Rock charts and number 4 on the Mainstream Top 40 charts.
In March of 1995, Collective Soul released their self-titled album which is considered by Ed Roland to be the band’s true debut album. The album Collective Soul spent 76 weeks on the Billboard 200 charts, went triple-platinum, and became the band’s highest-selling album. The album features the singles “December”, “The World I Know”, and “Where the River Flows”, each of which reached number 1 on the Mainstream Rock charts. The band’s fourth studio album Dosage was released in 1999 and included the single “Heavy” which spent a then record-breaking 15 weeks at number 1 on the Mainstream Rock charts.
Most recently, Collective Soul released their eleventh studio Vibrating on August 12, 2022.
